When A Family Paints…
Answering the call from Anita Tuleiko – the manager of Cirava Library, Agnese Matisone, Tereze Marija and Janis Rudzitis have put a great deal of effort into creating new paintings that have yet to be exhibited. The exhibition entitled “Family” alludes to the artists’ happiness of being together. Even though there are three artists, an attentive observer will see the connections between the pieces. The pieces were created interacting with one another, they were created in the same room, and sometimes at the same time. When asked, “Is there anything more important than family?” Agnese, Tereze and Janis said, “Family comes first!”
Cirava Library has received a donation of a picture book “The Tale of the Deer Princess”, which was published in Japan and illustrated by Agnese, therefore this event is planned to be family oriented – for parents, children, and other loved ones. Agnese will talk about the process of creating illustrations, as well as the fact that dreams do come true if you work hard.
Agnese has a Masters of Art degree. In 2015, she opened the tactile art (touchable, audible pieces) exhibition called “You don’t have to be afraid to touch” for people who are blind or have impaired vision. The exhibition was displayed in Riga, Ventspils, and Liepaja. The solo show called “The Crack”, which was exhibited at the Liepaja Museum, was the beginning of this socially-driven project, and the goal of it was to serve as a bridge between people. Agnese conducted 12 lessons about the creating of tactile art at the museum. 290 children and young people took part in them, thus promoting understanding and tactile ability.
5-year old Tereze Marija is the sunshine in the family. She also expresses her emotions through drawing and painting. The sizes of the pieces range from sticky notes to the apartment walls. Only the pieces which best fit the exhibit size have been chosen. Tereze’s favorite colors are pink, purple, and red. She likes sunny days and ice cream, she loves her grandmother very much, and she feels good in any season. Tereze thinks that the most beautiful flowers are roses, camomiles, and dandelions.
And then there is Janis Rudzitis , who is a source of inspiration in itself. He is an energetic optimist who loves people and life, and he will play with every street cat he meets. When Janis was a teenager, taking an optimistic view of everything helped him overcome a terrible disease and get back to his normal life. Janis has been the culturology, visual arts, domestic science and technology teacher at Liepaja Secondary School No.8 for 14 years already. He earned a Teacher of Liberal Arts and Design degree from Liepaja University, later continuing his studies and earning a Masters of Education and Work Management degree. In his student days, Janis actively took part in various group exhibitions and art-related activities. He has put all his efforts into educating the next generation, trying to find a spark of talent in every student and trying to motivate them to work in a creative way. While working at Liepaja Secondary School No.8, Janis was also working at A.Spaga Dunalka Junior High School. It is not for nothing that he has been named the “Liepaja Teacher of the Year” in 2008, 2013 and 2015.
The exhibition “Family” will be displayed at Aizpute Region Cirava District Library from March 11 until April 8. The exhibition will be open to the public during the library working hours. There is no admission fee.
The Opening Ceremony and Meet and Greet with the Artists will be held on March 11 at 2 pm.
